46 Years Old 50 years Old
Had a lot of fun with people telling me I am getting old, you are now half a century, it is all downhill from here on out, all the normal phrases that our American culture teases someone who is turning 50 years old. I enjoyed it all as the truth is I am aging, my hair is turning grey, and my eyesight has gotten to where I now need reading glasses; however getting older does not mean that you are getting worse.
It has almost become expected that as we age people accept the fact that they “can’t do what I use to be able to do”. To me I quote the man himself and live by the mantra that “getting old is for those that don’t know any better”. Just take a look at my pictures. If you did not know better you would think the picture of me when I was 46 is the old guy and the 50 year old guy is the “young” fit guy.
The current view of aging and what you can and cannot do is changing as people realize that you do not have to accept the status quo and see your life over at 50 or 60 or 70 or whatever “number” in your mind represents that life is over.
The truth is that you can continue to improve your health your whole life. The ways you do that may change over time, but change is good and being the best you can be should be the goal of everyone whether they are 25 or 85.
So with examples like Tony Horton who are proving that you can do things that a few years ago people would never have attempted as they age, I plan to keep pushing the envelope and seeing just what my limits are. So far every limit I had placed on myself I have surpassed and I plan to keep it up knowing that the only thing that can stop me is me.
